Communicating Overseas

I like Skype

Today I talked to my brother who is in China for a month or so doing work. If you are overseas and have a broadband connection, Skype is definitely the best choice for calling people back in the States. It’s free (pc to pc), but the call quality is also great.

So what’s the next step after VOIP? I am eagerly anticipating cellular/wi-fi integration that can use broadband access as a substitute for a cell tower’s signal. I think this could reduce the cost of communication greatly. In cities that are experimenting with municipal Wi-fi or Wi-max, this would be fantastic.

Prediction: when the Gphone is delivered, it will use something of this nature. What a smart idea that would be for Google.
